Melghat's remote hamlets are beautiful and forgotten in equal measure. Malnutrition and preventable disease were simply accepted as fate — until our mobile health unit began its rounds.
Every fortnight, a doctor, nurse and pharmacist travel the mountain roads with medicines, growth-monitoring charts and antenatal care. Villagers now track their children's health on simple wall charts we provide.
In two years, severe malnutrition cases in the covered hamlets have fallen by more than half. Wellness, it turns out, can be delivered by jeep.
